Departing Opua

image

Sails are up, rain has stopped, 10kt breeze 18degrees and we have checked out of Opua this morning. Weather predictions look great. We have run out of all the little jobs on a boat that need attention! We have two new crew Rob and Hew. We are heading north to Noumea. We are all excited and keen!

The wait for the last two weeks has been frustrating to say the least. We went  touring around the north island to look at the volcanos and coasts. Didn’t manage to see any of them as they were always shrouded in clouds and rain. The forest walks and cavelike gorges around Waitomo were magnificent. The coast around New Plymouth were stunning cliffs all black sands and huge surfing waves.

Rob researched some of his mums family history in Hawera with the local geanealogical society which we were lucky enough to see at work. These lovely ladies look through all the old magazines, school records and then note where to fine any individual name of photo so they can locate anyone in their file. A magnificent labour of love.

Don’t forget to find the link at the bottom of this post for the spot tracker   Cheers from Virginia and Robert

  2. First Picasso looks lovely from our house – sailing across the sunny horizon. Full sails on calm seas. Farewell from the Bay of Islands – we look forward to your next visit ……..aloha Lesley and Ray
